Profiles - James Campbell
James trained at Richmond Drama School, graduating in 1994.
Roles this year include ‘Gordon’ in DANGEROUS CORNER (National
Tour), ‘Clayton’ in HOUSE GUEST (National
Tour) and ‘Squire Trelawney’ in TREASURE ISLAND (Playhouse,
Weston-Super-Mare); He was also delighted over the summer
to work with Ray Cooney on his new musical ONE OF THOSE MOMENTS.
He has appeared in repertory seasons in Bradford, Westcliffe
and Sidmouth, where roles included ‘Lee’ in THE OFFICE PARTY, ‘Oliver
Farrant’ in I HAVE BEEN HERE BEFORE, ‘Gary’ in
DEAD GUILTY, ‘Philip Welch’ in THE
DEEP BLUE SEA, ‘Lester
Cole’ in VERDICT, ‘Frank Crawley’ in REBECCA, ‘Anthony
Marston’ in AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, ‘Clayton’ in HOUSE GUEST and ‘Sgt.
Hale’ in MURDER ON ARRIVAL,
He has toured three times in the south of France with Philip
Ayckbourn’s
Quorum Theatre Company, where he played ‘Jack’ in "A NECESSARY CHANGE FOR THE BETTER, ‘Tommy/Mme.
Lapierre’ in PLAYING MATHILDE and
created the role of ‘Danny’ in VALUE FOR LOVE.
He has also toured extensively in the UK with the award
winning comedy company Infinite Number of Monkeys, and in
2005 he choreographed their show about the history of music.
Other Theatre credits include ‘John’ in JANE EYRE, ‘The
Cowardly Lion’ in THE WIZARD OF OZ, ‘Nepommuck’ in PYGMALION, ‘Tony’ in WEST SIDE STORY, ‘John’ in ABSENT FRIENDS, ‘Shere
Kahn’ in THE JUNGLE BOOK and ‘The Wicked
Witch’ in HANSEL AND GRETEL.
He has also appeared in NEWSREVUE at the Edinburgh
Festival, FORBIDDEN BROADWAY at
the Jermyn Street Theatre and WORDS AND MUSIC at
The Com Exchange in Wallingford,
James has also worked extensively in educational theatre
and has done Pantomime seasons in Manchester, Hunstanton,
Loughborough, Abergavenny and Ebbw Vale.
Film work includes ‘Mick’ in SERENDIPITY and ‘Drummer’ in NEGATIVE as
well as playing ‘George Hutchinson’ in the computer game ON THE
TRAIL OF JACK THE RIPPER.
T.V. includes BIRDS OF A FEATHER, SPACE PRECINCT and
an advert for a popular newspaper. He has also recorded several
audio plays, playing ‘Professor Candy/Dame Candy’ in OH NO IT ISN’T, ‘Allis’ and ‘Ballis’ in DOCTOR
WHO – THE WORMERY and ‘Ensac’ in DOCTOR WHO – THE APOCALYPSE ELEMENT
in which he worked with Colin Baker and The Daleks!
His talents have also taken him to Australia where he played ‘Teddy’ in
the popular radio comedy THE X-FOOLS, James has
also directed a production of THE BATHROOM DOOR by
Gertrude Jennings and was assistant director for Best Shot
Theatres production of BUGSY MALONE.
He has also written a children's book, and co-wrote the cabaret SERENDIPIDITY.
