Proifles - George Telfer
George has performed extensively in theatre throughout the
country. He has done repertory seasons in Edinburgh. Nottingham,
Kirkcaldy, Chesterfield, Crewe, Eastbourne and Glasgow, playing
a variety of roles including ‘Sir Robert Morton’ in THE
WINSLOW BOY, ‘John Barrett’ in DANGEROUS
OBSESSION, ‘Arthur’ in THE FANCY MAN, ‘Andrew
Wyke’ in SLEUTH, ‘Sidney Bruhl’ in DEATHTRAP, ‘Mitchum’ in THE
LONG AND THE SHORT AND THE TALL, ‘Greg’ in RELATIVELY
SPEAKING, ‘Inspector Nelson’ in RAT
IN THE SKULL, ‘Harry Roat’ in WAIT UNTIL
DARK, ‘Rick’ in KILLING TIME and ‘Elyot’ in PRIVATE
LIVES.
National tours include IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY with Tim Brooke-Taylor, THE
BARE NECESSITIES with Geoffrey Hughes and Jeffrey Holland, ‘Dr Rance’ in WHAT
THE BUTLER SAW, ‘Malvolio’ in TWELFTH NIGHT and ‘Carnoustie
Bligh’ in SAILOR BEWARE. He also played ‘Sergeant Trotter’ in
a European tour of THE MOUSETRAP. George is a co-founder of C19th
Actors, for whom he played ‘Jack Worthing’ in THE IMPORTANCE
OF BEING EARNEST, ‘Jack Chesney’ in CHARLEY’S AUNT and ‘Tony
Lumpkin’ in SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER, as well as directing HAY
FEVER all at Gawsworth Hall Open Air Theatre in Cheshire. He attained notoriety
in the DR. WHO world, having played leading villain ‘Graham Winslet’ in
the trilogy of AUTON Films.
In 2002 George played ‘Richard Burton’ in a one-man play called PLAYING
BURTON, receiving five 4-star reviews at the Edinburgh
Festival Fringe - including “Burton is meticulously portrayed” The
Herald, and ”A coruscating and brilliant piece of drama” The
Scotsman. During 2003 he wrote a one-man play about Sir John
Gielgud, GIELGUD – A
KNIGHT IN THE THEATRE, which toured arts centres and
then played at the 2004 Edinburgh Fringe to considerable
critical acclaim, including “I lapped
it up with pleasure" Charles Spencer,
The Daily Telegraph, and “Don’t miss” The
Independent. Later that year he played ‘Krapp’ in KRAPP’S LAST TAPE and
appeared in a new play FILTH, at the St Ives Festival.
Other recent theatre includes ‘Molina’ in KISS
OF THE SPIDERWOMAN, ‘Briggs’ in OUR DAY OUT, ‘Jason’ in ROMANTIC
COMEDY and ‘Davies’ in THE CARETAKER.
After Mother Goose last year George stayed at the Pomegranate
playing ‘Henry
Miles’ in THE END OF THE AFFAIR, ‘Archie’ in JUMPERS and ‘Mr
Topkiss’ in John Goodrum's ONE FLING AFTER ANOTHER before
appearing in SIXTEEN SONOROUS STONES at the Bridewell
Theatre in London. He then spent some time writing a new
one-man play about Richard Burton, BURTON’S
LAST CALL, for which he was nominated for both Best
Actor and Best New Writing at Buxton Festival. He toured
during the autumn with both BURTON’S
LAST CALL, and AUDIENCE WITH MURDER for Bruce
James Productions.
Once again, he is thoroughly looking forward to being hissed
and booed here in Chesterfield this Christmas, whilst keeping
up regular training for his third London Marathon! George
is running this time for Whizz-Kidz, a charity which provides
customised mobility equipment for children, and has committed
to raising £1500…..any
