The Little Mermaid makes a big splash in Weston

Our half-term treat for all the family, THE LITTLE MERMAID adapted by Debra James from the original story by Hans Christian Andersen, played to big audiences at the Playhouse Theatre in Weston-super-Mare last week and was an instant hit with young and old like. THE LITTLE MERMAID tells the story of Ariel, a beautiful but headstrong mermaid [played by MIRANDA TATTON-BROWN] who longs to see a handsome Prince [ELLIS KERKHOVEN] on her one day of 'rising' to the surface of the sea. Led on by the evil sea witch Ursula [LORINDA KING] Ariel sings to entice a boat, carrying the Prince, his friend Hans [DANIEL OLIVER] and his trusty crew, close to her and she sees her Prince and falls in love. On her return to the sea bed her father King Neptune [PAUL MORSE] is furious she has put the entire kingdom at risk and summons up a storm to bring the Prince's boat down. Ariel saves her Prince but despairs she will ever see him again unless she can become human. Hypnotised by Ursula Ariel's friends Squid [JAMES CAMPBELL] and Scallop [DARREN MADDISON] inadvertently advise Ariel that the sea witch will give her the legs she craves. However on her visit to Ursula she discovers the deal for the human legs is to give the witch her voice in exchange and unless she can get her Prince to kiss her within three days Ariel will be forever in the witch's power and always remain a mermaid. Can Ariel recover her voice and win her handsome Prince? Will Squid and Scallop get the lovers to kiss and save the day? Will Ursula triumph over King Neptune and his kingdom under the sea?
